VALUE OF GOOD CHARACTER

When wealth is lost nothing is lost. When health is lost something is lost When character is lost all is lost.Character can be defined as a sum total of our mental and moral qualities. When we say a person has good character we mean he is sincere, honest, tolerant, helpful and dependable. On the other hand, when we talk of some one who lack good character,we mean he is selfish,a liar and unreliable.A person must form his attitudes and principals carefully and stick to them.Originally the word"character"means distingushing mark impresssed on a coin or a seal indicating its value and origin. Thus character can mean marked individuality.Home is the important school for character formation. It is at home that every person receives the training right or wrong.Children learn by looking at the example of elders. It is vital to guide a child especially through his formative year.Environment also influences the character formation of the young.A man who is highly respected is the one who strives for excellence. He is rich in heart, honest, dutiful and truthful. We do not see ourselves as others see us.When someone point out our faults we resent it.We exclaim am i like that? But the person who understands his shortcomings and and corrects himself shoes his character.Character is not formed in a day.It is slow process.Every throught, every feelings contributes to the development of our character .As a sculpoter cuts away here ,smoothens there until a living face has come in his work,we have to cut awat all that is excessive, straighten all that is crooked and never cease in forming our character until it become the kind of the character that is pleasing to all. There is some thing attractive about the with a good character .And if he is appointed to a high office, every one feels that things will improve. When nelson was command every soldier took pride to work with him. When washington commander- in a chief the sailors felt their strength more than doubled. And so it is with the character of great men. They may but there ideas and example live on as inspiration to others. As you go about your daily life-in the work shop,in the street,in the home, anywhere, you teach other by your example and character.Daniel webster said,"if we work upon marble it will perish.if we work upon brass, time will erase it .if rear buildings will crumble to dust. But if work upon man;s mind ,if we imbue them with high principles,we ungrave on their minds something in time can efface.
